Nutritionist For Cancer Patients

Personalised Nutrition & Lifestyle Support for Cancer Prevention, Treatment & Recovery

“I cannot recommend My Cancer Nutritionist more highly or be more satisfied. I would recommend all cancer warriors to contact her as she gives me confidence that she has something in the armoury for every stage however positive or challenging the journey is and however long the journey needs to be” (Val, Cancer Patient)

As an Oncology Nutritionist, I provide an individualized, metabolic approach to cancer, with a focus on improving quality of life. Dealing with a cancer diagnosis is a formidable challenge, and whilst nutritional therapy isn't intended to cure or treat it, incorporating it as an adjunctive support can bring tremendous benefits.

While your oncology team is dedicated to treating your cancer, my goal as your nutritionist is to support your body at every stage of your journey to improve quality of life and build resilience. Through functional testing*, I assess and address the factors that may have created an environment in which cancer was able to thrive.

This approach covers elements such as the gut microbiome, hormonal imbalances, inflammation, circadian rhythm, stress and emotional well-being, detoxification, genetics and immune function. I am equipped to develop personalised nutrition plans and therapeutic strategies that address the unique needs of my clients.

“You cannot heal in the same environment that made you sick.” (Anon)

How can My Cancer Nutritionist help?

  • If you’ve recently been diagnosed and have a surgery planned, then prehabilitation support can make a big difference with personalised nutrition and physical activity playing a significant part. By working with My Cancer Nutritionist, I’ll tailor a protocol to your specific needs, so you can be confident that you’re preparing your body in the best possible way to reduce complications from surgery, improve recovery times and get yourself to an optimum condition to face the next stage of cancer treatment faster.

  • Chemotherapy, radiotherapy, immunotherapy and hormone therapy may all come with an intimidating list of side effects such as fatigue, nausea, diarrhoea, dry mouth and hot flushes to name a few. By working with My Cancer Nutritionist, I aim to reduce some of these side effects so you can have a better quality of life, as well as potentially improve the efficacy of treatment.

  • After active treatment, you might be feeling utterly lost, and afraid of what to do next or how to return to a new normal. Treatment can really take it’s toll on your body and mind, and also leave you with niggling symptoms that can last months or even years after treatment. This is the time where My Cancer Nutritionist aims to build you up to optimum strength and vitality so you can get back to normality. I may recommend functional tests specific to the type of therapies you’ve had or the ongoing symptoms you may be experiencing as a result of treatment or due to other factors. My aim is to assess and address your issues.

Conventional oncology medicine is very good at using therapies to target tumours, however it doesn’t address any underlying factors which may have favoured the cancer to grow in the first instance. This is what I’ll aim to investigate. I’ll provide you with the tools and guidance that leave you feeling confident and reassured that you’re doing everything to reduce the risk of recurrence.

  • It’s estimated that cancer will affect at least 50% of the population, so it’s more important than ever to strive for “prevention is better than cure”. By focusing on the five pillars of health: nutrition, sleep, physical activity, stress management, and community, I can help you reduce your risk of a cancer diagnosis.

If you’re worried that cancer may run in the family, just remember that “genes load the gun, diet and lifestyle pull the trigger”, meaning you have the power to take charge in many cases.

What to expect during a cancer nutrition programme

My 1:1 cancer nutrition support programmes concentrate on more than just what you eat.  Building a robust immune system and supporting your healthy cells throughout your cancer journey comes from focusing on all aspects of health, starting with the fundamentals of balanced nutrition that will provide essential knowledge during your cancer journey and beyond.  I provide personalised protocols around: nutrition, sleep, stress management, movement, as well as recommendations on functional testing to provide a fully personalised approach*. Through regular consults, I coach you through each step, so you can make sustainable changes for the better.

Cancer Nutrition

A personal nutrition plan can help you gain confidence and empower you to choose the best foods to fuel your body with the potential to improve the efficacy of treatments. This can enable faster recovery from surgery, increased energy and less side effects during active treatment, build a robust immune system once treatment is completed; and work on the terrain that enabled the cancer to grow in the first instance.

Sleep Support

Adequate sleep is crucial when it comes to cancer for mental and physical well-being.  It helps reduce inflammation, regulates hormones, recharges your brain, enables you to handle stress, and builds resilience.  I provide the necessary tools so you can get the best night’s sleep.

Stress Management

Chronic stress impairs sleep, suppresses the immune system, as well as impacting on mental health. Building resilience to stress is a huge part of integrative oncology and will always form part of a support programme. You can make all the changes to what you eat, but if you don’t address mental, physical and chemical stress, then you’re missing a large piece of the puzzle.

Movement

Physical activity may be the furthest from your mind particularly when in active treatment. However it can help reduce fatigue, and when incorporated prior to surgery, can improve recovery times among numerous other benefits. I tailor movement recommendations to your personal circumstances enabling you to maintain muscle mass, increase energy and have a better quality of life.

Functional Testing

Functional tests* allow us to have a proper deep dive into what may have created the terrain in which your cancer cells have thrived in the first instance. They also help ascertain what aspects of your plan need to be tweaked to ensure your body is responding in the desired way to the recommended changes. They’re also incredibly useful for any other issues you may be experiencing that could hinder nutrient uptake.
